Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.”  That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.
Genesis 2:22-24

The Catholic Church says that marriage between two baptised person is having the couple’s relationship expressed in a unique way the unbreakable bond of love between Christ and his people.

Like the other six Sacraments, it is a sign or symbol which reveals Jesus and through which his life and love are expressed to us.

The Sacraments were instituted by Christ and entrusted to the Church to be celebrated in faith both within and for the community of believers.

The prayers and rituals of the Sacrament of Marriage uses to celebrate visibly expresses what God is doing for us in the background.
